Live Just Eat CFD Chart and Prices

12 October 2017: Just Eating

To me Just Eat, the firm that connects takeaways with consumers, has a big chuck of the food delivery market and Hungryhouse was one of the few competitors.

In trying to scale up, Just Eat has tried to buy Hungryhouse and it looked like Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) could have made the difficult.

However, the CMA looks to have approved the merger and Just Eat have issued this RNS statement:

Just Eat plc (LSE: JE) welcomes today’s announcement from the CMA that it has provisionally cleared the company’s acquisition of Hungryhouse.
The CMA has said the merger was:

Unlikely to result in competition concerns.

UK Tech Success?

I guess we should be happy about a UK tech success, the firm is already listed in the FTSE 250 and has market cap of £4.7bn.

Spread Betting on Just Eat?

The acquisition has not been finalised but it’s good news for the Just Eat share price which is trading at 737.50p and not far of its highs of 758.50p.

Indeed, the stock gapped up 7% on the open before letting off some steam.

What happens when you eat up the competition….

At the same time though:
  • infoThe current share price gives it very high price earnings ratio of 60.
  • infoCompetition-wise the CMA sighted Deliveroo as well as the newer entrants of Ubereats and Amazon so there is some deep pocketed tech competition.
The increased competition may mean pressures on growth and profit margins but if Just Eat can harness the network effect then it could win this one… or get bought out by one of the bigger firms.

Longer-Term Bet?

With such a high PE ratio this may have to be a longer-term investment. The high P/E ratio is too much for me and I’m sitting this one out for now.

If you like the stock on a medium-to-long-term basis then spread betting or CFDs on Just Eat won’t be the best option.

You’re better off buying the shares themselves.

Spread bets aren’t great for buy and hold trades.
